Grab some jum-jills and scramble up the mountain to feed the Funny Thing! Our exhibit honoring this classic book by Wanda Gág, will take you in and around a striking black-and-white landscape where you’ll find  a very hungry aminal and explore Bobo’s cave.

When the fire bell rings, Pickles will slide down the fire pole to help put out the flames or rescue a fellow neighborhood cat from the tree. Visitors to the Hook & Ladder Co 7 will find their own fire pole so they can learn to do big things, just like the Fire Cat.

Five vain and angry tigers have stolen Sam’s new clothes and are chasing each other around a tree. They go faster and faster until all you can see is a blur! Please note: the Rabbit hOle is not responsible for any visitors who turn into butter while riding tigers.

If you’re going to rescue the baby dragon, don’t forget a well-packed knapsack before you travel to Wild Island. As you journey up the river, use your wits and supplies to outsmart the many wild animals who live in the thick and colorful jungle.

This exhibit is a larger-than-life recreation of the iconic Romeo-and-Juliet-esque scene of the pretty Spanish cockroach at her balcony and the elegant Perez bowing to her. Inside Martina’s house visitors will explore her kitchen, where Perez meets his tragic demise, and interact with several elements that celebrate Belpré’s storytelling and legacy.

There are two types of people in this world: those who believe the bear ate that hat-thieving bunny, and those who don't. Both will enjoy our I Want My Hat Back exhibit. Visitors can open up the bear's tummy, where they may find the bunny or just an empty space. 

Katy Kangaroo is designed to “hippity-hop” all around The Rabbit hOle, but you will likely find the giant, orange kangaroo stationed near the entrance looking very happy and welcoming. H.A. Rey plays with scale in Katy No-Pocket, and throughout the book she is depicted as small, or huge, or regular. We thought it would be fun for kids to not only see a big Katy with arms open wide, but to also become part of the story by getting in her pocket.

Art thieves beware, Arthur Dog is standing guard in The Rabbit hOle’s Discovery Gallery. Though he may look reserved leaning against the wall, he is watching and ready to sniff out trouble. Standing nearly 5 ft tall, Art Dog is sculpted from foam and has soft, floppy ears. If you listen carefully you might even hear him whistling a jazzy tune. 

For The Rabbit hOle’s No, David! exhibit, visitors will sit with David as he splashes in the overflowing tub, hear the running water by turning the tub knob, and play with some of his bath toys. When they tire of sitting in the tub, they can run around to the other side and pick David’s nose.

Author Joan Heilbroner wrote Robert the Rose Horse after seeing police horses all over New York City during a visit from Fidel Castro. Just like his equine inspiration, our Robert has the size and strength of a real horse. And as long as there aren’t any roses around, we know Robert will dutifully help direct visitor traffic at The Rabbit hOle.

To demonstrate the sort of immersive experiences we're creating in The Rabbit hOle, our team built the bus from the award-winning book Last Stop on Market Street. Visitors can climb aboard the Market Street bus and “take the ride” with CJ and Nana from cover to cover, enveloped in a sensory experience that puts them directly into the story.

Our Harry the Dirty Dog exhibit is the first in a series of bathtub benches, where you'll soak up the story and illustration just by taking a seat. Visitors can sit surrounded by bubbles and Harry, who is insistently holding his scrub brush.
